The ARRAYMUSIC Studio is hummimg with activity all year long, with the ARRAYMUSIC ensemble, rehearsals of other Toronto groups, and also with our special Studio Events. These events exist specifically to invite the community-at-large into our space and to engage them in the process of musical thought, creation and performance. Studio Events come in a variety of packages which are constantly changing and expanding. Here is the current line-up:
RAT-DRIFTING
Rat-drifting, a new series of loft performances curated by Martin Arnold, will be taking place at the ARRAYMUSIC studio the second Saturday of each month starting September 2000. Continuing from where the Victory Café's Ulterior Music Series left off, Rat-drifting will feature free improvisation and experimental composed music with regular incursions of small-noise electronica, dance improv, skewed pop, bent after-jazz, and coarse-grain folkcore. Just some of the participants will include Eric Chenaux, the Silt, Allison Cameron, Wrist Error, Aimée Dawn Robinson, John Oswald, Marmots, Michelle McAdorey, and any of Rob Clutton's projects. Guests from Montréal, Chicago, and Ottawa are also to be expected. Shows begin a 9:00 pm with a $5.00 cover charge going directly to the musicians. Rat Drifitng is not only a series, but now a new recording label.
STUDIO CONCERTS
These concerts allow us to try out some of the many scores that are sent to us each year and also give our players and other players as well as composers in the community the opportunity to do some experimental work. We wait to schedule these and other studio events pending confirmation of other season dates.
COMPOSER TALKS
Composer Talks is an ongoing series in our studio. They take the form of a lecture/presentation by the composer followed by a discussion with the audience. Recent Composer Talks have featured international composers such as Matteo Fargeon, Christopher Fox, and Orlando Jacinto García, in addition to topics such as composing for the voice (with soprano Barbara Hannigan) and the identity question as it relates to woman composers.
The ARRAYMUSIC Studio is at 60 Atlantic Avenue, Suite. 218. Atlantic Avenue runs south off King Street, just a few blocks west of Strachan Avenue. Our building is one block south of King Street at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Liberty Street. Please enter through the door located off the adjacent parking lot and come upstairs to Suite. 218.
