| SPODROX Performed live at the Music Gallery, Toronto, June 1, 2003 |
Since the fall of 2002, I have been interested in exploring compositional processes versus expectancies from the listener. In SPODROX, I explore a disorienting compositional style of disorder-order-disorder, or dod for short, in which I create material, organize it meticulously, and then disorder the organization. This in turn plays with the audience's expectancies, since from disordering the same material I can create any setting, from a lighter jazz to a somber empty space, and then use complete over-organization to result in a false sensation of disorganization. |
