ARRAYMUSIC

announces its 17th annual

YOUNG COMPOSERS' WORKSHOP (en français cliquez ici)

competition for 2002/03.

ARRAYMUSIC is currently accepting applications for the 2002/03 YOUNG COMPOSERS' WORKSHOP competition. Now in its seventeenth year, the workshop is designed for composers who have completed basic studies in composition and would welcome the opportunity to work directly with a professional ensemble in the development of a new work; there is no age restriction.

Four participants will be selected to create a work for small chamber ensemble over a four-week period; each composer will have two hours per week with the ensemble. These sessions will allow for experimentation and orchestrational development of the work through readings and consultation with Artistic Director Allison Cameron, the performers, and the conductor. In addition to the rehearsals, the participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas through weekly seminars with the director. The finished works, or works-in-progress, will be presented in a public performance. Composer Talks in our studio by guest composers will also be featured during the course of the workshop.

The workshop will take place at the ARRAYMUSIC studio in Toronto from
May 6th through June 1st, 2003. Composers must be willing to be in
Toronto for the full period; ARRAYMUSIC can supply a letter of
recommendation for use in applying for a travel grant. Each participant
will receive an honorarium of $500.00 from ARRAYMUSIC. The performance
will take place on June 1, 2002 at The Music Gallery at St. George the Martyr.

re: submisions: Interested composers should submit an application including a letter of
introduction, a curriculum vitae, and 3 scores and recordings (if available) of
previous works demonstrating their ability to compose for chamber ensemble.
A processing fee of $15.00 must also be included.

Deadline for submissions is: December 2, 2002
Successful applicants will be selected by January 5, 2003.
