STUDIO EVENTS

The Arraymusic Studio is hummimg with activity all year long with ARRAYMUSIC ensemble and other Toronto groups rehearsing and also with our special Studio Events. These events exist specifically to invite the community-at-large into our space and to engage them in the process of musical thought, creation and performance.

Studio Events come in a variety of packages which are constantly changing and expanding. Here is the current line-up:

the leftover daylight series...
...is an ongoing improvised music series presented by Toronto musicians Ken Aldcroft and Joe Sorbara.

Each event in the series consists of three sets of music. The first set is usually performed by an ad hoc grouping of improvisers from the community, the second by an established ensemble. The third set is a wildcard set. Often, this is a peformance by Joe Sorbara's Pickle Juice Orchestra, on other nights the third set could be, well... anything Ken and Joe can dream up.

Each event begins at 9pm. - tickets: adults $10, students/seniors/unemployed $6.

The WINDOW SERIES

The WINDOW SERIES, a new series of loft performances curated by Josh Thorpe and presented in co-operation with Arraymusic, is taking place at the Arraymusic Studio on the second Saturday of each month. The WINDOW SERIES will feature free improvisation and experimental composed music with regular incursions of small-noise electronica, dance improv, skewed pop, bent after-jazz, and coarse-grain folkcore. Shows begin a 9:30 pm with a $5.00 cover charge going directly to the musicians.

STUDIO CONCERTS

These concerts allow us to try out some of the many scores that are sent to us each year and also give our players and other players as well as composers in the community the opportunity to do some experimental work. We wait to schedule these and other studio events pending confirmation of other season dates.

COMPOSER TALKS

Composer Talks is an ongoing series in our studio. They take the form of a lecture/presentation by the composer followed by a discussion with the audience. Recent Composer Talks have featured international composers such as Matteo Fargeon, Christopher Fox, and Orlando Jacinto Garcia, in addition to topics such as composing for the voice (with soprano Barbara Hannigan) and the identity question as it relates to woman composers. -
