Workshop in Contemporary Percussion $45 for first time participants The workshop is intended to be fun and non-threatening. This year, special attention will be paid to different types of 'groove' that result from the interaction between participants. Excersises and improvisations will be recorded. Participants can bring storage devices or receieve a free CD. This year the goals are twofold: 1. Group improvisation and rhythm exercises providing tactile experience in polyrhythm and logistics. Playing with and 'against' other workshop participants and creating multiple percussion setups (focusing on ease of use for specific performance demands) will give valuable experience to players and composers. 2. Composers can investigate and learn techniques that bring about the best performance from a percussionist as well as experiment with timbral combinations and logistics. Composers are invited to bring in a percussion part for one on one consultaion with Rick. Isolated discussion will be possible while others are setting up or exploring sounds. The workshop is intended to be fun and non-threatening. These are pratices gleaned from over thirty five years of experience in contemporary chamber and solo repertoire and improvisational and experimental activities in academic, ethnic and popular genres. the workshop will be 4 hours long including two fifteen-minute breaks but it could go longer in we are having too much fun!
