Featuring: Perch, Hen, Brock & Rain (Ab Baars, Ig Henneman, Ingrid Laubrock, Tom Rainey) Marilyn Lerner & Nicole Rampersaud

Dutch meets NYC improv crew featuring Ab Baars (tenor sax & clarinet), Ig Henneman (viola), Ingrid Laubrock (tenor & soprano sax), and Tom Rainey (drums). Their resumes read like a who's who of avant jazz / improv / out music across 2 continents, but don't let the convince you. This free quartet marches forward in playful leaps, each player egging on the other to take the next step. Tense notes held combat repetative jabs, but it's never oppressive. You can almost hear the joy in thier collective improvisations. This music is sort of like The Goonies, it's all about the adventure & the trajectory is bound to change as each player vies for leadership. Quiet horn whispers draw you into a lull, until Rainey poignant rhythms spur the next phase of their journey. Tip toeing through cavernous tones. Don't miss this percise attune improv. unit.

Piano & trumpet duo explore a soundscape of heavy textures. Prepared piano buzzes and casscading notes pair with frantic trumpet bursts. This duo almost sounds like some lost Harry Partch expirment. Rampersaud plays with hollow whispers, mimicing Lerners padded notes. Active yet restrained they bounce off each other almost automatically with a dialogue of trumpet growls & haunting piano voicings.
