Percussionists Adam Campbell, Rick Sacks and David Schotzko team up to present a night of percussion music. Rolf Wallin calls his duo for marimba and xylophone, Twine; it’s an apt title, a noun and a verb: two wooden instruments intertwining, sometimes close enough to become a compound thread, other times unraveling enough to interact in counterpoint. This image of threads being produced, coming together to weave single textures—sometimes tight, sometimes tangled—then pulling apart, fraying, could be usefully applied to much of the music in this concert: music for multiple marimbas or massed Chinese opera gongs or three players working inside a single piano; threads—similar and different—coming together to form ephemeral, ever shifting fabrics.
