Call for submissions for 2007/2008

Arraymusic is currently accepting submissions for its 2007/2008 YOUNG PERFORMERS WORKSHOP competition. Modeled on Arraymusic’s internationally recognized Young Composers Workshop, this unique workshop is designed to benefit performers who have completed their basic studies in performance and who welcome the opportunity to learn and perform contemporary repertoire under the guidance of the acclaimed Arrraymusic Ensemble. Applicants must be under the age of 30 as of Jan. 1, 2008.

The YOUNG PERFORMERS WORKSHOP jury is made up of professionals who select a violinist, clarinetist (doubling bass clarinet), trumpeter, double bassist, pianist and two percussionists. Participants rehearse a concert length program of contemporary music from the Arraymusic Ensemble repertoire over a four (4) week period starting in May 2008. Each performer is given one (1) session of one hour of coaching each week with a member of the Arraymusic Ensemble as well as up to eight hours of ensemble rehearsal a week over a four week period. The  concert program will be performed by the participants in a public concert at The Arraymusic Studio in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on Sunday, June 1, 2008. Participants will have the chance to meet other professionals from within the new music community during their month of involvement in the workshop.

The YOUNG PERFORMERS WORKSHOP takes place at the Arraymusic Studio from
May 5th to June 1st, 2008.
Participants must be willing to be in Toronto during their workshop sessions. Arraymusic will supply a letter of recommendation to successful candidates for use in applying for travel grants. Those selected will receive an honorarium from Arraymusic to provide compensation for participation.
There is no application form. Interested performers should apply by submitting a letter of introduction, a curriculum vitae, a recording of their performance of a  solo work for their instrument composed after 1950 as well as the excerpts for their instrument posted on the Arraymusic website (www.arraymusic.com). Recordings can be on CD or cassette tape. Applications must include a processing fee of $25.00.

 

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS March 15, 2008.

Successful applicants will be notified in late March.
